Do you know how to activate the Google Keyboard gestures on your Android mobile phone? With them you can add new ways of interacting with your Keyboard application, which will allow you to be more efficient when typing.

What are the gestures available on the Google Keyboard

Gestures seem to be on everyone's lips thanks to the new Android and iPhone interfaces. However, they are a system that has been present on our mobiles for a long time, although normally focused on applications. A very clear example would be Nova Launcher Prime, although a more common one could also be the Google keyboard, which offers three gestures to interact when writing.

What do these gestures offer? The intention varies depending on which one is activated, but in general, the aim is to write faster and edit more precisely. It's easier to see if we detail the three available gestures, so let's get to it:

  • Enable typing by swiping: This is an Android classic. It allows you to slide from one key to another to form the word you want. For example, we would start by pressing H and from there we would slide to O, then to L and then to A. We would then release and the word HELLO would be written.
  • Enable delete by gestures: This is a bulk delete method. We press and hold on the backspace key and slide to the left. The text we want to delete will be selected word by word. We can adjust to the left or right as we need and, when we release, everything will be erased. The proofreader will suggest erasing it in case we instantly regret it.
  • Enable gesture cursor: A system to reposition the cursor. We hold down on the space bar and slide left or right. By doing so, the cursor will move and we can place it precisely where we need it.

How to activate Google Keyboard gestures

These three gestures can be activated independently. How? Since the GBoard settings. To access them easily, we recommend following our tutorial to show GBoard icon in app drawer. It is the easiest way to have these Settings on hand. Once you access them, look for the category of Swipe typing and you will see that you can activate the gesture you want individually. Activate the ones you prefer and take the test to see if it fits what you were looking for. If you want to deactivate them, you can do it from this same screen.
