Google Maps is an excellent application of gps navigation. And for a long time since it not only gives us directions by car, but also on foot, by bike or by public transport -among others-. But for users, problems they start when they have to be done Combined trips with these various forms of transportation. And finally, Google Maps is preparing the mixed routes in which we can combine bike ride and by public transport, for example.
La 'first and / or last mile' is the key in all this. It is possible that even the train you go on an electric scooter or bicycle, for example. Then, we would already be doing a mixed route in which, at the moment, Google Maps is not able to help us. Right now, users are having to define a journey to do the tour on an electric scooter or bicycle, for example, and a second journey to go by public transport. Which, obviously, complicates the use of the application and goes against the user experience, causing errors on some occasions, or delays when making the journey.
Google Maps and 'mixed routes' do you use various forms of transport on your trips?
In order to take advantage of this feature, we are going to have it easy. We just have to write our destination, as always, but then we will have to go to the Directions button -or how to get there- and, in the lower part, we will find the possibility of doing the mixed route. That is, with more than one form of transportation. Thus, the duration of the journey and the rest of the information will be adapted exactly to the way we are going to make our journey. And we can also see data on traffic on our way, or information regarding the departure of our bus or train, among others.
Likewise, the information on cycling is perfectly adapted to the needs of cyclists. Regarding the availability of this feature, it will be available initially in 30 countries around the world, but Google Maps will gradually add new locations. It is a new feature not only for users of Android, but also for the iPhone. And if you don't have it available yet, it will be a matter of just a few days before it reaches your smartphone.
For this update of its functions, the Mountain View company has once again taken into account that in the cities the use of the car is falling significantly. Electric scooters, public transport and bicycles are gaining prominence for what, as we said before, is called the 'last Mille'.
