It all started with Snapchat that popularized what we now call stories o stories. And now they have stories Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp, YouTube and… Spotify? Yes, you can see that Spotify wants to add stories to its application, it is hard to believe. How will it work? We will tell you.
So far Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp, YouTube and many other apps with stories are social networks. So ... Why add it to a music platform that is not a normal social network?
After all, Spotify has a great social component. Share the songs with your friends, share on Instagram stories, share playlists or albums, collaborative playlists and a long etcetera. Sharing is a vital part of Spotify, but… What about artists?
Stories for the communication of the artist with the user
That's right, what Spotify wants is that artists can communicate with their listeners. In this way, without having to leave the application in which you are listening to their music, you can see what the singer that you like has to say to their listeners, that is, you.
This future novelty was discovered by Jane Manchun Wong, who has already been mentioned more than once in Android Help. Since it always digs a lot into the code of the applications to find news such as the dark mode of Facebook or the shared queue of Spotify itself.
As we have said, these stories they will only be for artists. To connect with your audience or promote your new songs, which you can access directly from the story if the person wants, and you can also put fragments of it, in a similar way to how it happens on Instagram.
Possibly the stories will appear on the Spotify artist pages, in the profile photo, as well as on other social networks such as Instagram. What is not known yet if there will be a feed where you can see all the news, but we assume that there will be one, at least with time and if the implementation works correctly and is well received.
Of course, we still do not know if it will be only for users Premium or not. The fact of being able to customize some functions such as hide songs in playlists external implies that they are quite advanced functions, which questions whether it should be available to everyone.
It seems that anyway, if you are not interested in what the artist has to say and you just want to listen to music or you are fed up with so many stories in all the applications you use, you can deactivate them, this way they will not appear.
What do you expect from this novelty? Do you think it will be a good implementation and will it contribute to the user? Or that it will remain a mere anecdote?
