Two weeks with Android Wear, is it useful?

Motorola Moto 360 Cover

I have spent two weeks using Android Wear on a daily basis. I have done it with a Motorola Moto 360, the smartwatch that I liked. And I have drawn very precise conclusions. I would tell you in two lines, but almost that I prefer to use the whole post. The question is: is Google's operating system Android Wear really useful?

How is Android Wear useful?

I'm going to focus on what we can use Android Wear for and what can be useful. If you do sports, it can be a second screen that allows you to control your smartphone or have access to some information that is displayed on your smartphone. It does not allow you to forget your smartphone because either it does not have GPS, or it does not carry music, or in case it is so, it does not have a heart rate monitor, thus losing all its sports component. In such a case, it is useful to change the song you are listening to, to see the rhythm, the calories, or the speed you are taking, or even to see if you are following the correct route.

To all this we must add its ability to monitor the heart rate, the steps we take, and in general, our sports activity. Although we already have many of these things on a smartphone, the smart watch performs these tasks autonomously, and continuously. You will know the steps we have taken, how long we have been walking, and whether it has been walking, running, or cycling.

In addition to this, we cannot forget the utility of Android Wear to respond to messages, whether they are from WhatsApp or emails. The biggest problem is that you will have to use the voice system, which limits us when it comes to using English terms such as OK, and very long sentences. To answer confirmation or denial messages, or things like that, it can be useful, although in the end we prefer to take the smartphone out of our pocket, as it will take less time, and people will not think that we are crazy to be talking to a watch on the street.

Finally, and for me the most useful thing about the watch, is that we can see notifications and other information on the smartwatch. In this way, it is not necessary to carry the mobile in hand to find out about the messages we receive, or even other information such as Tweets, or messages on social networks, which we would like to be able to see every time they are published.

Are they useful in something else?

Right now, the usefulness of these devices doesn't go much further than that. In the future, we sure do, we have no doubts. We can turn on or off the house light, or our computer. The volume of the musical equipment, the movies that we see on television. And even, why not, have access to the refrigerator, the washing machine or the kitchen from the smart watch, being able to turn on the fire whenever we want, or activate the washing machine at the moment we want it to start the washing program. But today, unfortunately, the functions of a smartwatch are not very advanced, and it seems too expensive for what it actually does.

All not to mention that there is no smartwatch right now that meets all the features that it should, and that we already talked about in the article on what the perfect smartwatch should look like.

It is quite useful when it comes to handling both to answer calls and messages as well as when browsing, personally I use it to walk around the city of Los Angeles and having the indications on the clock screen, you do not need to look away too much to see towards Where to turn or when to do it, it even vibrates once when you approach a turn or change of direction and it vibrates twice when you have to do it immediately, for me this is quite useful to drive in cities that you do not know or go to little known routes
