WhatsApp is the app used par excellence to communicate. It outperforms any other, even outperforms calls and texts, as well as emails. However, there are still some features that should come to WhatsApp in my opinion, and I think they will arrive in the not too distant future.
1.- Surveys
It is a function that is already present on Twitter, and that I do not understand why it is not present on WhatsApp. It should be, and it should come now, because it is a must-have feature. I would not change what WhatsApp is at all. I would just add one more option. In groups, it is sometimes difficult to make a decision about a vacation plan, or what gift to buy for a friend. With the polls, different options could be considered, and users in that group could vote what they want. It would be an easy way for everyone to participate easily, without confusion between the messages, and the opinion of each one being clear. In addition, in groups of many users, it would be the only way to count all the opinions. I think it is a function that should arrive now.
2.- Mentions
It would also have to do with groups. We talk about mentions. Sometimes we want to write a message in a group but directed to a specific person. For example, a message to the boss to ask a question that affects all employees. The boss might never look at that group, or even have it muted because employees are often talking about the work they have to do. However, when you receive a mention, the notice you receive is different, like the one you receive on Twitter. I think it is a function that should also reach groups. This is more complex, as it changes the idea of groups that WhatsApp has. After all, you can use direct conversation, right? Is not the same. Hence, I think it should come.
3.- Mobile payments
This will take longer to come, but I'm pretty sure it will. We are talking about mobile payments. Not in a store. But between friends. We buy a gift for a friend together and only one of the group pays for it. Being able to send money to that friend who has paid would be ideal, or pay him the movies that he has paid for all. Spending money through WhatsApp could be a really useful thing. It is already possible through Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp's sister app. It is possible with apps like Twyp or Yaap Money. But if it came to WhatsApp, it would become very popular. Mind you, this won't come soon. We may soon see that it is launched in the United States, but to reach Spain they will have to negotiate with Spanish banks and company, something that will take time.
