Android O themes could be a reality

Android could finally receive compatibility with themes natively. Until now, this had been an exclusive feature integrated by manufacturers or ROM developers, but it was not present in the native code of the operating system. Now Google has integrated this feature into Android O. It's called Device Themes.

Changing the theme on the Google Pixel with Android O

Android O is currently available for very few mobiles. It was presented yesterday, it is not a Beta version, but a first version for developers, and it can only be installed on the Google Pixel and the latest Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X. And not even all the features are in the latter. For example, in the Android O Screen Settings section, we find the Device Themes option only on Google Pixels. And here we can choose between two different themes that are already installed.

Themes for Android O?

However, it must be said that the two themes are simple: Pixel and Inverted. The first is the basic of Google mobiles. The second is the same, but with the notification bar and the dock in dark color. There is not much variety, but it seems logical that if this option is present, that of Device Themes, it is because Google plans to make it part of Android natively.

It's actually normal if we take into account that almost all manufacturers already had their theme platforms. We are talking about Samsung, LG, Sony, Huawei and Xiaomi, and ROMs like CyanogenMod (now Lineage OS), or MIUI.

Android should have integrated this feature a long time ago, although it is not very clear how it will apply it. The basic Android interface has always been characterized by being unique in appearance, and that would be lost if it can be changed. We will see how Google applies it.
