Will Google surprise us by calling the new version of Android Licorice?

Opening snows Android version Licorice

To date, there is no official name for the new version of Google's operating system aimed at mobile devices, which at the moment is known as Android L. There are different possible options, such as Lollipop or Lemon Meringue Pie, but there is one more that has gained strength: Licorice (licorice).

And the reason to think that this could be the name is none other than a message on the Google+ network that he has published Giovanni calabrese. And who is he for credibility? Well, one of the people who sculpts the figures that represent the versions of Android, so that something might know, obviously. And, as the reference to Licorice is clear, it has not taken long to think that this could be the name chosen by Google finally for the next major update of its operating system.

The truth is that the message is not totally clarifying, since it tries to play a word game but, the truth is that it is not at all unreasonable to think that this was the name of the new Android version for everyone's surprise (something that will not happen with the Nexus 6, of which more or less is already known enough about the components that it could have). Specifically, what can be read on Google+ is the following: “I've never had a great fondness for licorice, but damn, there are great flavors out there!

The fact is that version 5.0 of Android will come with many new features, especially the new design Material Desingn and 64-bit architecture support. That is, we are not exactly in a new version unless it simply corrects errors, far from it. Therefore, the name that can be given, such as Licorice, will be remembered for a long time.

The truth is that it would not be strange for Google to surprise with the name of its new Android version (which has many options, such as Leo referring to the Nestlé sweet), since it should not be forgotten that in the latest version KitKat until the last minute everyone thought that the name of this would be Key Lime Pie. Will there be a surprise for Android L calling it finally Licorice?
