Some time ago we published a post in which we analyzed some of the things you could do to get your Android will stop running so slow. We talk about uninstalling applications, freeing up internal memory, etc. However, there is something you can do that is much more precise than all that, and that could be more useful.

Internal memory or RAM memory?

Your Android smartphone may no longer work as fast as when you bought it. This is for various reasons. Generally, you have less free memory on your smartphone, and this makes operation less smooth. However, it is also true that there are some applications that especially slow down the smartphone. In the first edition of this post, we talked about uninstalling the apps that took up the most space. But if you smartphone is slow due to a RAM memory problem, then it is not a question of eliminating the applications that occupy the most space, but the applications that block the most RAM memory. How to locate them?

Apps that lock up RAM

As you know, in smartphones there is what we call multitasking. Processes are running that are not the ones we are running ourselves. And sometimes there are applications that consume much more RAM than the internal memory they occupy. When uninstalling applications, we must take into account which ones we want to uninstall. To find out what they are is as simple as going to Settings > Applications and go to the second tab, In action, and here you will see all the applications that are running. If you find some that you have not executed, it is that they are executing alone. What interests you is the value of the lower bar, where all the RAM you have appears and the one that is free. The free and occupied memory values will allow you to know the relative memory occupied by an application. For example, a smartphone with 1GB of RAM has about 1.000MB of RAM. An application that occupies 40 MB of RAM is an application that occupies a considerable amount. It is something similar what happens with an application like Timely, whose use is quite passive, since it only serves as an alarm. Perhaps it is the application to uninstall when seeing that it consumes a lot of memory, when we have another that serves as an alarm. However, it is just one example of how to locate applications that can help the smartphone to function more smoothly.
