We can criticize a lot WhatsApp, but the truth is that the application is still the most used in the world for communication around the globe. Specifically, they have just announced that they have reached 400 million active users. And in addition, they not only mention the figures reached, but also emphasize that they have achieved it without advertising, or complementary video games, or anything else.

It is not a trivial number. With the arrival of Facebook to 1.000 million users, everything seems little in the world of applications, but the truth is that 400 million users, and not only users, but active users, is an incredibly large number, which shows that a large number of people choose this app to communicate with others. Currently, it is more or less a third of the total users that Facebook has, that not the active ones. If we think that all of them have to pay each year, we can already understand the amount of money WhatsApp earns annually.

And again, they have taken the opportunity to indicate that if the engineers they have can do a great job to offer an application like WhatsApp, then it seems logical that what they decide is to charge for the application, without having to resort to advertising banners, or stickers, or complementary games. And it seems very clear that those comments were directed to all other instant messaging applications.
The truth is that despite the fact that WhatsApp has been criticized a lot, the application does not fail practically. At the time there were many more crashes, but today we can say that it is almost an infallible system. They have just redesigned the application for iOS, and although its news is always scarce with updates, the vast majority of us use the app every day without complaint. They have certainly managed to totally change the communication landscape, and they may have done so for a long number of years.
