AMOLED screens triumph, LCDs die

When Samsung started launching its flagships with AMOLED displays, they were criticized by some and praised by others. There were those who claimed that these screens saturated colors a lot, contrary to what happened with LCD screens, whose quality was valued over that of AMOLED screens. However, according to new data, LCD screens are dying, while AMOLED screens appear to be the future.

LCD vs. AMOLED

The funny thing, to the case, is that LCD screens are still more sold than AMOLED screens. This is stated in the IHS iSuppli report, in which we see that the LCD screen market has generated 4.730 billion dollars, while the AMOLED screen market has generated 2.490 billion dollars. However, what is really relevant is the difference between the previous year and the present year. These data mentioned are from the second quarter of 2015. The LCD screen market generated in the third quarter of the year 6.462 million dollars, for which they have sold approximately 30% less. AMOLED screens, on the other hand, sold 1.521 million dollars in the fourth quarter of the year, so they have improved by 60%. If this continues, the display markets would be level next year, and in a matter of time LCD displays would begin to die.

Apple vs Samsung

And oddly enough, we are actually also talking about an Apple vs Samsung competition. The higher-end Samsung Galaxy, the S and the Note, have an AMOLED screen, while the iPhones have an LCD screen. Users of both smartphones have always criticized each other for the lack of such technology. However, it seems that AMOLED screens are finally getting better than LCD screens. There has even been talk that the iPhone 7 screen would be AMOLED and not LCD. Of course, for the moment AMOLED screens are typical of high-end mobiles, hopefully they will soon begin to arrive in the cheapest mobiles, the mid-range and the high-end ones.
