CM Updater, the new OTA updater from CyanogenMod

CyanogenMod is Custom ROM best known of the Android scene scene. Thousands of users frequently update their device with the latest versions of this ROM, the well-known Nightly versions, which come out every few days, fixing small errors. Until now, all these updates were done through the ROM Manager application, but now the team of CyanogenMod has decided to use again CM Updater as the default service to update by OTA to the latest versions of your software.

CM Updater will come pre-packaged in the latest versions of CyanogenMod, so we can update through it as soon as we go to the latest editions of this Custom ROM. This step involves leaving behind the previous system used to update, ROM Manager. And, apparently, it was the wish of the developer team to stop working with it for a long time.

CyanogenMod It is an opensource platform, voluntarily maintained by the developers and by the people who want to support it. ROM Manager is not like that, it is not opensource, in fact it is paid in the Premium version. For this reason, the team of CyanogenMod I wanted to change to a system that was free.

The new CM Updater it is the result of all efforts to offer an open system. It will take all the data from the official download page of CyanogenMod, so we can keep up to date with the latest that appears here. However, we do have a slight problem, and that is that we will not have automatic push notifications, but we will have to configure a review period so that from time to time, as we have marked, it checks for new versions and updates and informs us. Although it is not the most optimal in the world, it will not take us more than a day to be aware of the new versions if we indicate that we want it to do daily reviews.
