Is OnePlus right by expanding its product range?

It seems that the decision of OnePlus it is clear when it comes to having several Android terminals on the market. In this way, it is confirmed that little by little this Asian company is gaining muscle (we talked of an eventual merger with Oppo) and, it seems, it has been decided to bet on offering a wider product range in terms of phones with the Google operating system.

The information that has been known to indicate that OnePlus intends to expand its product range comes from the Chinese certification entity TENAA, in which a new model has been seen that will arrive with a screen of 4,99 inch AMOLED type and Full HD resolution. It is believed that it may be the OnePlus 2 Mini, and it would confirm what we say.

Other data that have been known regarding this model that would arrive with Android 5.1.1 operating system are the ones indicated below:

 • Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 eight-core processor

 • 3 GB of RAM

 • 13 megapixel main camera and 8 megapixel front camera

 • 4G compatible

 • 16GB storage compatible with microSD cards

 • Thickness: 6,9 millimeters

 • Weight: 138 grams

The truth is that the new OnePlus model does not look bad, but it is still a little variation of what is already known from the manufacturer itself, so the question is whether it is worth the effort involved in launching and maintaining an updated device so that it is not a very different model with respect to what the company already offers.

Does this make sense?

Well, the truth is that personally I do not think that the launch of a new OnePlus model involves nothing new or impressive in the market (regardless of the price it has, which is expected to be very high but higher than that offered by the X current). Therefore, not much sense is made of this arrival.

On the negative side of the balance it is also found that the effort required to sustain a launch and manufacture of a new terminal is great, and I think it would be much more profitable to use the resources to eliminate the sale by invitation permanently in the current models of the company and in those to come (for example). Especially when it comes to the expected OnePlus 3.

There may be strategic launch reasons in different regions, especially in territories like the US, but the truth is that even so there is no great justification regarding the arrival of this new model if it is produced. I repeat that it would be an interesting device, but having a very wide product range is not always positive and there are very clear examples of this in the HTC or Samsung market, without going any further.

We'll see how it fits OnePlus this model does finally reach the market, but the truth is that it does not seem that it will be a model with a success like the previous terminals that have been launched on the market. At least, this is my opinion, what is yours?
