Google Maps has included a new badge system for users who participate in Google Maps. A few months ago it included the possibility for us to ask questions about places in the maps app and have other users answer them. Also, just a few weeks ago, Google Maps allows us to upload videos within reviews to show more aspects of a specific place.
The four new Google Maps badges
Now, giving information, answering questions or making reviews will have a prize. Google Maps now has a badge system that gamifies the process. There will be four different badges with three levels on each of them. Rookie, Expert and Master in four different categories: Inquirer, Reviewer, Pioneer and Photographer.
To go up a level in each of the categories you will have to comply with what Google Maps asks you. For example, make a specific number of reviews, photographs or answer as many questions as the level asks you. This way you will go up the levels and you can boast of being a master photographer in Google Maps, For example.
Google thus invites its users to make the data as correct and complete as possible and motivates them by appealing to gamification as other third-party applications such as Foursquare, for example, did at the time.
Inquirer
- Beginning inquirer: suggest 3 approved modifications; verify 3 modifications; choose answers to 25 questions
- Expert inquirer: suggest 25 approved modifications; verify 25 modifications; choose answers to 250 questions
- Master inquirer: suggest 100 approved modifications; check 100 modifications; choose answers to 1.000 questions
Reviewer
- Beginning Reviewer: Write reviews of 3 sites.
- Expert Reviewer: Write reviews of 25 sites; write 5 reviews of more than 200 characters; write reviews that have been marked as helpful 5 times.
- Master Reviewer: Write reviews of 100 sites; write 50 reviews of more than 200 characters; Write reviews that have been marked as useful 50 times.
Pioneer

- Expert pioneer: add first photo from 10 sites; write the review of 10 sites; add 10 approved sites.

Photographer
- Beginner photographer: Add photos from 3 sites; get over 1.000 photo views
- Expert photographer: Add 100 photos; add photos from 25 sites; get over 100.000 photo views
- Master Photographer: Add 1.000 photos; add photos from 100 sites; get over 1.000.000 photo views
