Google Nexus 7 - Connectivity, launch and price

We finished the analysis of the Google Nexus 7 with what we needed to analyze and the most interesting. We are going to review the connectivity options that it has and we are going to highlight the shortcomings it presents in this regard. Finally, we see when the Nexus 7 is launched, so expected by all, and the price that the device will have in its different versions, one of the pillars of the Nexus 7, for how tight it is.

Nexus 7 - Connectivity

We talk about connectivity because Google has wanted to provide its device with good wireless options. Among these, we find WiFi, totally necessary in a device that lives off its Internet connection. In addition, we will also have Bluetooth, a wireless technology that is already quite old, if we look at it with perspective, but which is still very useful for connecting the device with other peripherals, such as hands-free, among many others. Finally, we can highlight the NFC chip that Google has introduced into the Nexus 7. It is clear that they want to bet on this technology, and they do not want their first tablet to miss out on anything they are preparing.

However, we find a significant deficiency in this regard. Google has decided that its new tablet does not carry 3G, in any of its versions. Those of Mountain View could have chosen to remove it from this new tablet due to the increased cost that it would entail. And perhaps it is not only thinking about your spending, but also that of the users. They are looking to sell a device with a low price but with good features. If it carried 3G, it would require the user to have a data rate, quite expensive at the moment, and that would make the product more expensive in terms of total expenses. But in addition, there may be another reason. Putting a data connection on the device would mean that in certain areas, such as the United States, it had to be 4G LTE. Therefore, they would have to design and manufacture different versions for different areas of the world, all without forgetting that the 4G version would have to carry a different processor, perhaps in the dual-core Snapdragon S4, with the negative aspects that this entails.

Battery, launch and price

With all the options seen and reviewed, what remains to be known is the price of the device and when it will arrive. Yesterday the reservation period was opened from the United States, Canada, Australia and the United Kingdom. The choice of these countries is still not very clear, although it could have to do with the agreements already signed with the distributors of magazines and television series in these countries, a unique feature of the Nexus 7. Although it could also be related to the language, since the four chosen countries are English-speaking. However, although it can already be pre-ordered, it was announced that it would start shipping in the middle of next month, July, so you will still have to wait a bit to enjoy it.

The Google Nexus 7 will come in two versions and with very competitive prices. The first version, which has a memory of 8 GB, will cost only 199 dollars, about 160 euros at the current exchange rate, although we assume that if it arrives in Spain it will not do so in a direct currency conversion, we will have to pay more, as always. If we want more memory, we will have to opt for the 16 GB version, which will cost $ 249, 200 euros.

All these models, of course, will come with the same battery, a 4.300 mAh unit, no less, with the capacity to hold nine hours of uninterrupted high definition videos, and 300 hours of standby time. Do you think it will be able to gain a significant market share?
