Google Nexus 7 - Hardware

The nerves still last from having had to follow the Google I/O live, but it's normal, nobody expected so many releases from the Mountain View company. But even with all the news released, it is the Google Nexus 7 It is the one that takes the cake, the first and new Google tablet. We are going to analyze all its characteristics in depth. Highlights its great processor, its large screen, and its price, best of all, which stays in U.S. dollar 200, 160 euros to change. We start with your hardware.

Hardware - Processor, RAM and GPU

The first thing that has attracted attention is the Nvidia Tegra 3 quad-core processor, which did not seem feasible in a device that was going to cost only $ 200, but the truth is that it is. It has the power to reach clock speeds of 1,3 GHz, and a video has been seen in the presentation of a gameplay of a video game, where it is shown that it has the capacity to run graphically very powerful applications.

For this last detail, its graphics card should also be highlighted, which is the one that processes video game animations, better known as GPU. This is a 12-core GeForce that seems to offer good performance. As for the RAM, we do not see anything too outstanding, staying at 1 GB, just enough for a device of this level.

Hardware - Screen and camera

Its screen is one of the main elements of the Nexus 7, and it even gives the name to the device itself. This is seven inches, so, at least for now, Google gives up competing directly with Apple's iPad. Its resolution is 1280 by 800 pixels, which is not bad, much better than the Kindle Fire, the direct rival of this tablet. The screen ratio is 17:10 if we count the Android button bar that appears at the bottom, and 16:10 if we keep the usable part that corresponds to the desktop.

On the other hand, its camera does leave something to be desired, since the front is 1,2 megapixels, while the rear does not exist. Google has wanted profitability in this regard and not include a rear camera, thinking that it is practically not used.

With these hardware elements, Google has wanted to focus on what is really useful for tablet users, and has reduced spending on less important elements, or that would have less use, as is the case of the camera, for example . However, he has put a much bigger effort into the software, which we talk about in the next post.
