Google works to launch an Internet accessible from 2G connections

It seems that the goal of Google y Facebook these are currently those users who do not have high-speed connections. And among them we can also include ourselves, in some way. For all of them, Google wants to launch an Internet that is accessible from any 2G connection. And the truth is that the company has been with this for a long time.

4G yes, but ...

Google and Facebook are already used by almost every connected user in the world. "And now what do we do?" Well, reach those who do not have Internet, and if for that you have to give them Internet, then you are looking for a way to achieve it. For now, one of Google's goals would be to make the entire Internet accessible by users with 2G connections. And how does that benefit you? Rare is the web that does not contain Google advertising, which in the end is what makes them money. And it is much easier to provide a 2G connection than a 4G connection, for example. In the end, the question lies in being able to surf the Internet with slower and more stable connections. And that not only affects users in countries with difficulties to connect to the Internet, but also countries like ours. Although almost all of us have 4G connections, there are too many areas in which we are left without that connection, and we even have to survive with a much worse connectivity, which is 2G. This is what happens in rural areas, beach areas, and even urban areas. In the end, the only truly stable connections that we have practically always are 2G. And if Google gets users with those connections to connect, it will not only get users from poorer areas to connect, but also users who now think that the Internet can only be surfed with WiFi or with a very stable connection.

Google

Compression, VPN?

At the moment we do not know exactly what this is that Google is already offering in Indonesia, and that it could soon reach the rest of the world. We do know that pages load four times faster, 80% less data is downloaded, and there are 50% more page views. Notable benefits for users and webmasters, especially if we take into account that advertising will continue to be shown, according to Google. Although the company has not specified how it is working, we can reach a conclusion for different reasons. For a long time Google has been working on the compression of websites through Chrome, which consists of taking all the data from a website, compressing it on Google's servers and showing it to us the same on mobile, but less heavy. This would be taken to the next level with the VPN service the company appears to be working on, a global VPN for Android that would handle all data transfers through Google, and which could apply a series of processes similar to the above. Finally, to all this we should add the recent changes in the search engine algorithm that almost "forced" those responsible for the websites to adapt their page to mobile phones. Possibly the intention of Google is that they facilitate a little the work of compression and processing of the webs.

At the moment, it seems to us something interesting, although the feeling that Google is becoming more and more a giant that is going to have power even over the Internet does not stop drawing our attention. He already has it, but his steps are on the way to getting it completely.
