Half of smartphones are already Android

Measurement company comScore has released its latest MobiLens. Based on a sample of 30.000 US mobile users, it gives a complete idea of where does the market go of mobile telephony. By platforms, Android has taken a considerable lead, monopolizing the 48,6% of the market. By manufacturers, Samsung retains number one. The number of smartphone subscribers in the US surpassed the 100 million in January, with an increase of 13% since October to 101,3 million. Android remained the main platform, with 48,6% of the market, rising 2,3% in the last month. Apple follows, with 29,5%. Far away, RIM appears, which occupies third place with a share of 15,2%, Microsoft, with 4,4% and, in last place, the old king, Symbian, with 1,5%.

In the past three months, an average of 234 million Americans age 13 and older used mobile devices. By manufacturers, Samsung continued to be the first, taking 25,4% of the market share. They are followed by LG, with almost 20% and Motorola, which holds with 13,2%. The fourth manufacturer is Apple, which remains at 12,8%. RIM closes the list of main manufacturers, with 6,6%.

In terms of use, in January, 74,6% of subscribers to mobile services in the US used the text messaging, increasing somewhat compared to previous months. For their part, 48,6% used downloaded applications while browsers were used by almost half of the sample. These two uses were the ones that grew the most in the three months analyzed, with almost an increase of 5%. Access to blogs and social networks continued to grow, reaching 35,7% of subscribers. They were followed by online games, with just under a third of the total, and music playback, with 24,5%.
