What options does Huawei have on Android without Google support?

Donald Trump, the president of the United States, has declared a trade war against China, so American companies have to terminate their commercial contracts with Chinese companies. That is why Huawei has run out of Google support. What does this mean and what will it entail?

That's right, Huawei off Android, but… what does this mean exactly? Well what Huawei will run out of Google services, this includes from popular apps like Google Drive or Google Maps, as one of the things that Android supports: the Play Store.

Yes, the popular Chinese firm will run out of Play Store to the detriment of install AppGallery. This leaves us with very important questions such as: "Is my Huawei phone going to stop working?" or "What about WhatsApp?", we will see how things progress, but for now, do not worry, since Huawei has already confirmed that phones that are already on the market will not be without Google services.

This is good news, no doubt, but it doesn't end here, and it doesn't seem to be getting better. Neither Google nor Huawei have talked about the updates. All phones that had to receive Android Q, it is possible that they will be without it, and even without security patches. We still do not know how the issue will end, we will have to wait.

This news has made brands like Intel or Qualcomm abandon Huawei.

Even Spanish telephone operators are doubting the reliability of 5G, which was the main company in the deployment of these networks.

This could even benefit Apple if its decisions are the correct ones on how to take advantage of the situation of the possible decline of a rival company.

At the moment the situation is chaotic, Huawei will be able to access Android, since they can access AOSP (Android Open Source Project), but it is of little use if you cannot access the services of the Great G and even update. But Huawei has several options to get out of this situation, these could be some solutions.

Create your own ROM

The first option would be to create your own ROM, or forking, which is the solution that Xiaomi or OnePlus have used since its inception. As we have said, Huawei can access the AOSP (in fact, everyone can), so one of the solutions is to create your own fork, since the forks they have no control of Google. So you can create your own Android distribution independently, although we do not know how it will affect the updates.

Huawei, which possibly foresaw the situation, has been developing Kirin OS for some time, its own fork of Android ... Will it be the immediate solution to the problem?

Buy a ROM

Another, more immediate option is to buy a ROM such as LineageOS or Pixel Experience, to be able to implement it on your phones and not have to worry about the issue of Google services since these ROMs can implement it, although they allow you to use the phone without Google's control as we already told a while ago.

Make your own operating system

One of the craziest options, make your own operating system. There are many operating systems that have been tried to implement and that have not worked due to lack of applications or support by software manufacturers. Operating Systems such as Firefox OS or Windows Mobile failed for the same reason, so either Huawei leaves everything perfect from the beginning, or it is not a great idea.

We hope that the situation will be resolved with deals or with a lifting of the blockade, but it is not known what will happen at the moment, we will remain waiting, and we will inform you in Android Ayuda.
