However, it was clear that the community was not going to let so much time pass to give life to the first versions of Lineage OS, and the first unofficial ROMs for some smartphones are becoming available.
Many of them are based on CyanogenMod 14.1 and add some additional feature. It is clear that it is necessary that there is some kind of sharing of characteristics that would be wanted for the future of the ROM, because without it, many variants of this ROM will end up appearing.
At this time, Lineage OS is already available in unofficial versions for LG G3, LG V20, OnePlus 2, OnePlus 3, Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini, Samsung Galaxy S5 and even Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge phones. And said list is expanding with the passage of time with more versions adapted by developers.
Lineage OS could be many different ROMs
However, there is something to keep in mind that we talked about a while ago when we learned of the closure of Cyanogen Inc. Without a company that is in charge of the development of CyanogenMod, it will be very difficult for the new Lineage OS ROM to be unique. We say this because originally CyanogenMod was a single developer ROM, although it received help from the community, there were always common criteria that made it clear what the original CyanogenMod was. The same does not have to be the case with Lineage OS. There will be many developers who will now want to contribute, and it is very likely that the closure of CyanogenMod will not lead us to a new ROM like Lineage OS, but to multiple new ROMs, with different ideas. This is not a bad thing, and in fact it could be a positive. We knew CyanogenMod very well, but it is never bad that new options arrive, which had begun to be scarce in the android landscape.
