Modular mobiles died before appearing

Project Ara

It seemed like it was the future, or at least that's what they thought first at Motorola and then at Google. Phones that, like computers in the past (and in the present, although increasingly less common), could be modularized and made on demand. However, the truth is that it has become clear that modular mobiles have not had any success and were not going to be. And it is that they died before even appearing.

The mobiles, chronicle of a death foretold

And it is that, we must not make mistakes, we are living the last time that we will live from smartphones. Cell phones will not survive many more generations, many more years. Smart watches seem to be the future, and whatever the case, what is clear is that the main manufacturers are not going to let lesser-known manufacturers arrive and launch mobile phones with a cheaper price, and with characteristics similar to those of flagships. For that, they will pose a radical turn in the market, and smart watches have everything to win. When? It is not clear, it will depend on what the companies have already developed, but probably one or two years from now. What is clear is that mobiles are going to die, and we will see a different future. In this context, talking about a modular mobile does not make sense, for something very simple. If mobiles die, modular mobiles are of no interest.

Technical difficulties

But it is that to all the above we must still add one thing, the great technical difficulties faced by the engineers working on the modular mobile project. They had communication problems between the modules. They have almost had to develop a new form of communication between the modules, which already poses a problem. But even so, Google did not have well solved the problem of the software and the integration of Android in a mobile of this type. With all this to solve, the modular mobile had a few years left. And what is clear is that the market changes so fast that what cannot be launched in a short time ends up dying. This is the case of Google Glass. But we also see an obvious demonstration, albeit in the opposite direction, with virtual reality. Two years ago, they were not talked about. Today Google has its own platform for developers to work on virtual reality, and it is launching its own glasses to use this technology. Without complex technical approaches, but with the knowledge that you already have. The modular mobile has too many obstacles, and other technology platforms too few.
