Install the latest LMY48M update on Nexus devices

Android Tutorials

About a day ago it was known that most of the devices Nexus they were beginning to receive an update to their operating system. This was known thanks to the fact that T-Mobile indicated it and we commented on it. The fact is that the Mountain View company has announced that the corresponding factory images for the compatible models are now available and, in this way, it is possible to proceed with the manual installation.

The new firmware includes fixes for some small bugs that have been found in Android 5.1.1 which is in the version of the operating system on which it is based and, in addition, security solutions are integrated. The latter is the most important and has an additional detail that must be mentioned: the monthly news in the operating system so that users are safe and problems such as the stagefright vulnerability are not known again.

Nexus 6

The firmware version in question is LMY48M (Except for the Nexus 6, which may be the LVY48E, but the ideal is to check well that the appropriate one is selected for this device manufactured by Motorola). Then we leave the links of the Google terminals that already have the corresponding factory images:

Installing the factory image

If you already have your firmware and want to install it on your Nexus device, what you have to do is what we tell you below. Of course, the first thing to check is that you have the battery charged with at least 90% charge and, in addition, what to follow the process is the sole responsibility of the user himself (so we recommend that you make a backup before anything else):

  • Save the ZIP file obtained in the Platform-tools folder that exists in the Android SDK (download)
  • Connect the device you want to update to the PC and turn it off
  • Now restart it by pressing the Volume Up + Volume Down + Power buttons at the same time
  • You are in the bootloader, and you must select Recovery Mode using the volume buttons to move through the menu and the power button to select
  • When you see an icon that includes an exclamation point, press the Volume Up + Power buttons at the same time. Now is the time to select Apply update from adb to install the update
  • Open a command window on your PC and type adb sideload and then the name of the downloaded file
  • The process will begin and you will have to wait for it to complete
