Many manufacturers are eliminating the audio jack of mobile phones, leaving only the USB Type-C connector to connect the headphones. But this is a big mistake. Perhaps it is one of the biggest design errors when it comes to the usefulness of the mobile.
Removing the audio jack
Eliminating the audio jack has been an idea that manufacturers have had now that the USB Type-C digital port can be used to connect headphones as well. However, the idea has not been a good one. The benefit is to be able to eliminate the jack port, and thus save space on the mobile, so that a thinner smartphone can be designed. But it is a mistake. And is that losing the jack, we are actually losing many possibilities on the smartphone.
How do we listen to music, movies or video games?
We use headphones when we listen to music, watch movies, or play video games. In all three cases the battery is consumed. Listening to music uses the least battery, but watching movies and playing video games uses a lot of battery.
That is why almost always, when we watch movies on our mobile or play video games, we end up connecting the smartphone to the electricity grid whenever possible, so as not to consume the mobile battery.
We also have the opposite case. There are users who connect the mobile to charge when they are not using it. For example, at work. But they also use it to listen to music.
And indeed, this is impossible if we have headphones connected through the USB Type-C port. It is true that there are adapters with which it is possible to both charge the mobile and connect headphones. However, these adapters will have to be of quality if we want the music to be heard well, or if we want the battery to charge quickly. Either way, it is an expense and an extra adapter. It makes no sense to remove an audio jack if it leads us to lose features on the mobile. Without a doubt, a mistake, which many who have a smartphone without an audio jack, will have already understood.
