Sony has a smart bracelet ready

One way or another, it seems that smartwatches have yet to become a standard on the market. As a complement to smartphones, they are very expensive, and as single devices, they are not yet useful enough. Smart wristbands could be the future, and Sony already has a wristband ready to go.

Said bracelet, or what would be something similar to a bracelet, has just been certified by the FCC, the American body that handles these procedures. The company was among the first to launch a smartwatch on the market. The first Sony SmartWatch hit stores in 2012, while the second was launched a year later, in 2013, the same year that the Samsung Galaxy Gear was launched. Therefore, it is not surprising that the company is one of the first to bet on smart bracelets, although it seems very clear that it will not be the only one, since Apple itself would also be working on a bracelet of this type.

Although it is true that the name "wrist" in the certification document could well refer to a new smartwatch, it is most likely that it is a slightly different device. Precisely because Apple seems to be preparing a new bracelet, we could begin to take into account that the new type of device that becomes standard would be these bracelets.

The watches have not managed to penetrate the market in a forceful way. As unique devices, they are not useful enough or feature enough, as well as many limitations. On the other hand, as smartphone add-ons they are too expensive, and they don't just offer too many add-ons to smartphones.

Sony's new smart bracelet so far is still unknown and we do not know the specifications that it could have. However, its launch is probably not too far away, but a matter of a few weeks in the worst case. CES 2014 will take place at the beginning of January, and only a month later, in February, will MWC 2014 take place. Hopefully it will be one of the novelties that Sony plans to launch at one of these two events.
