Sony would also launch a mobile with its own processor, what does that mean for users?

Sony could launch a new smartphone also with its own processor. The new mobile could be a flagship that would be presented at IFA 2017 in Berlin. Could be the new Sony Xperia with screen without bezels that we had already talked about.

Sony would launch its own mobile processor

Almost all manufacturers already have their own processor. If Sony launches a smartphone with its own processor in September, there will be very few manufacturers that do not have their own processor. Samsung has already released the Exynos that are now integrated into its entry-level, mid-range and high-end smartphones. Back in 2016 we said that LG could launch a high-end smartphone with its own processor. It would not arrive in 2017 either, but it seems that in 2018 they could launch a new mobile with an LG processor. Precisely Google would also launch for 2018 a smartphone with a processor designed by themselves. In fact, Google would have hired one of the engineers who was responsible for the design of the iPhone processors. Today we were talking about Xiaomi processors, which could be integrated into Nokia mobiles.

And if Sony now also launches a mobile with its own processor, there would be very few manufacturers that would not have their own processor. Now what does that really mean for users?

Best mobiles

The processor is the core of every smartphone. In fact, any computer must have a processor to be a computer. The level of this processor is what determines the level of the computer itself, or the smartphone itself in this case. Therefore, the better a processor, the better the mobile.

In the case of Android, many different mobiles, with different processors, have the same operating system. Many mobiles also have the same processor. For example, many high-end smartphones feature the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 as a processor.

However, those mobiles that have a processor designed by the smartphone manufacturer itself tend to be better smartphones. This happens because the manufacturer has taken care of both the processor and the smartphone, so there is a much higher optimization. This leads the Samsung Galaxy S8 with the Exynos 8895 processor to be better than the Samsung Galaxy S8 with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor. It is not that the latter is not a quality processor, it is simply that a high-level processor can never be of as much quality as a processor designed for a specific mobile.

The iPhone is still today a mobile of a level similar to high-end smartphones with Android although it has components of a lower level, and this is precisely because of the optimization that Apple makes when taking care of the design of the processor.

Samsung will always have a better flagship if the others do not have their own processor. That is why all manufacturers would launch high-end smartphones with their own processors. A new Sony Xperia with its own processor would be launched at IFA 2017.

And what is the future of Qualcomm?

Now, what is the future then of Qualcomm? The company designs the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660, and the Qualcomm Snapdragon 450. They are high-end processors. But manufacturers want to have their own processors. If everyone had their own processors, what would be the future of Qualcomm? While it is true that we sometimes speak of Qualcomm as the manufacturer of processors, the truth is that they only design them. In fact, Samsung was the one who made Qualcomm processors, and now TSMC will go on to make them. These two companies, Samsung and TSMC will continue to manufacture the processors, both from Qualcomm, Apple, Samsung, LG, or any other manufacturer. And if this is the case, manufacturers will not even have to contract Qualcomm to manufacture the processor. If this happens, Qualcomm could no longer be the main manufacturer of mobile processors.
