The Motorola Xoom receive the update to Ice Cream Sandwich

Motorola has just announced that it is rolling out the Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade for its Motorola Xoom in several European markets (it has not specified which ones). The news is very positive in itself. But the paradox may arise that Spaniards who have a Xoom receive it just a few days before the new Jelly bean operating system begins to arrive on Xoom tablets in the United States.

Google still does not solve the great problem of Android that is none other than the slowness in its update process. Android 4.0 was presented at the end of last October. In January, Motorola, recently bought by Google, announced that it was beginning the rollout of the Ice Cream Sandwich update. It seemed that they were doing it fast, only three months had passed since the official presentation of Android 4.0. However, that ad was only for the US market. The Europeans would still have to wait. But the US process is being so slow that even at the beginning of June, the Sprint operator communicated to its customers that they could now update their tablets.

Yesterday, almost hidden by the endless news that is emerging from Google I / O, Motorola announced on its Facebook page that the process of updating the Motorola Xoom had begun in a selection of European markets. They did not specify models or countries. They only added that the deployment would take place over the next few weeks.

If we ignore the long delay and long wait that Xoom owners have had to endure, the news is good. Your tablets will be able to take advantage of all the improvements that Ice Cream Sandwich has and that only 10% of Android users have already had the opportunity to check. The vast majority are still anchored in Gingerbread and even earlier versions like Froyo.

But it so happens that Ice Cream Sandwich will reach the Motorola Xoom sold in Europe almost at the same time as Jelly Bean. On Wednesday, when Google announced the new Android 4.1 operating system, it already said that the first to receive Jelly Bean would be the Galaxy Nexus, Nexus S and Motorola Xoom, in addition to the Nexus 7, which leaves the factory with it.

There is going to be the absurdity that while a Spanish user of a Xoom tablet will receive Ice Cream Sandwich, other Americans will have the brand new Jelly Bean. I think Motorola (and all manufacturers) should sit down with Google and the carriers to solve the update problem at once.
