The sale of smartphones already exceeds the sale of common mobiles

Smartphones had become a standard in Spain, the country with the highest proportion of smartphones per inhabitant. However, it was not common around the world, where in general terms conventional mobile phones were still top sellers. Up to now. Smartphones are already outselling common mobiles.

And the figures make it clear. If we talk about smartphones we have to count up to 250 million smartphones sold throughout the second quarter of 2013, while if we talk about conventional phones in the same period of time, we talk about 210 million. The difference is notable, which implies that smartphones have already become the standard worldwide, with a 51,8% share of the phones sold on the planet, whether they are smart or not.

Samsung and Android dominate the market

If we specify more about the different manufacturers and operating systems of these smartphones, two, Samsung and Android, undoubtedly stand out. The South Korean company is the one that sells the most mobiles in the world, both smartphones and conventional phones. In fact, we can say that thanks to a company like this, smartphones have been able to expand so much, with cheaper prices than the iPhone, one of the first smartphones on the market. Of the 225 million smartphones sold in the second quarter of this year, 71 million are Samsung. The second company is Apple, with 31 million, so the difference is very noticeable.

But the same goes for Android. Of the amount already mentioned, 177 million have Google's operating system for smartphones and tablets. And here the difference with respect to the second operating system is even more remarkable, since it is iOS, with 31 million smartphones sold with this operating system in the second quarter of the year. And although these data are not negative for Apple, since they have very few smartphones on the market, the truth is that they are negative for other operating systems, such as Windows Phone, with seven million smartphones, or BlackBerry, with six million. This company, in fact, could already be close to its sale. Continual failures have turned one of the most successful companies of the past decade into a non-profit holding back.
