The Samsung Galaxy S3 uses Gorilla Glass 2 on its screen

It was one of the mysteries of the new Samsung mobile. What glass was on your screen? At the launch of the Galaxy S3 in London earlier this month, there was talk of its quality, its brilliance and at the same time resistance. That combination today is only achieved by the Corning company with its Gorilla Glass, but strangely Samsung did not mention it although it would have been a good advertising claim. The manufacturers of this crystal have just recognized it.

We don't know why it is being released now, but Corning just released a press release. Its title says it all: Corning's new Gorilla Glass 2 chosen for the Samsung Galaxy S3. They explain how the new screen protector mantle was presented at CES in Las Vegas earlier this year. It was expected to arrive in May and that is how it has been, the Galaxy S3 is the first smartphone to have it.

They claim that Gorilla Glass 2 is up to 20% thinner but maintaining its hardness and resistance against bumps and scratches that has made them the market leaders. With these new measures without compromising their endurance, they allow manufacturers to have more freedom to design their new mobiles. What's more, the sensitivity of the screen to the touch gains integers.

After its premiere with the Galaxy S3, Corning already offers it to other mobile companies. It won't take long to see it on the new mobiles that appear. With its appearance in 2007, there was a whole turnaround in the manufacture of mobile phones. On a few occasions, an apparent minor detail such as the coverings of a screen has been so relevant for the subsequent development of the mobile industry. And if not, here are some figures. In this years Gorilla Glass has been adopted by the 30 main brands, being present in more than 750 different models. Until the arrival of the Galaxy S3, some 750 million terminals had been sold with this crystal. This year there will surely be a few million more.
