The Xperia S receives Ice Cream Sandwich and some extra news

In May we told here how Sony planned to upgrade the Xperia S to Ice Cream Sandwich by the end of June. Well, the update process has started today. Although all Xperia S users will receive a notice, the exact date may vary from one carrier to another. In addition to ICS, the update includes some other improvements.

Sony has just published on its official blog the start of the deployment of the new software for the Xperia S. Before entering Ice Cream Sandwich (what users really expected), Sony stops to highlight the news that they themselves have put in the update on your part. Thus, they have introduced improvements in the multimedia part with three new applications: Walkman, Album and Movies.

With Walkman comes all the Sony audio technology enriched by social details to discover music with friends or share our favorites. In addition, it incorporates integration with Facebook (it is almost an obligation that all new apps have it). For its part, Album, promises a more intuitive way to search and view the photos and videos stored in the Xperia S, with greater ease to comment on and share them on, of course, Facebook and other social networks. Finally, Movies, in addition to playing the stored material, shows covers and information about multimedia files.

As for the update to Ice Cream Sandwich, almost everything is already counted: It comes with an improved screen lock, greater customization and configuration of the widgets, greater control over data consumption and everything we already know about Android 4.0. x.

The update will be available directly on the mobile via both mobile networks (beware, there are 200 megabytes of file) and WiFi, although there is also the possibility of connecting the mobile to the computer and using the Xperia Update web service. As we have said, all users will receive a notice when it is available for their terminal.
