There are times when our phone gives us un problem that we cannot solve. When it does not work properly or we see that it does not have the agility that it had when we bought it, we may even consider reset it to make it like new. Therefore, at this point, you have to know what the different ways that exist to totally or partially reset your phone and what each of the options implies. Today we show you how to restore factory settings, network settings, and settings for some applications.

Either for a terminal malfunction, because we want to give it a facelift to continue using it or because we are going to give it to someone, we need to know what ways there are to restore some aspects of the phone and how it is done. Let's start from more to less.

Factory reset

It sure sounds familiar. It is the way you have at hand to leave your mobile just as you took it out of the box: with the settings and applications that come from the factory. This option, which may seem radical, is a good way to clear our phone of threats and do a good cleaning. And you will think, what is the point of doing it if all the files are lost? Well, you should know that in addition to the backup copies that you can make of your data, the phone will also give you the option of keeping what you have in the internal memory.

Open your settings and look for the "Advanced settings" tab. At the end of everything you will have the option of "Backup / Restore". When you click here you will see the option to "Reset network settings", which we will see later, or "Reset factory data". By clicking on the latter, the phone alerts you of what will be deleted.

Internal memory data as caccounts, settings, application data and the applications that we have been installing since we bought it are some of the things that will disappear. If you wonder what accounts you had logged into your phone, it gives you a list of what they are. Finally, there is also the option to erase all the data from the internal memory (music, photos, files…), which you can select or not. Therefore, before proceeding, think that almost everything will be deleted and you should make a backup copy to be able to preserve valuable elements.

Once this is done we will have our phone as we turned it on the first day. At this point you can restore a backup so you don't have to configure everything from scratch.

Reset network settings

Network settings are those related to your connections. In this section are your Wi-Fi, mobile data and Bluetooth connections, so if you ever have problems connecting to the internet or sending or receiving messages, for example, it may be useful to reset them. And you might think, what kind of data are going to be deleted in this section? Well for example you will lose Wi-Fi and Bluetooth networks (and their passwords) that you had saved. To recover the initial network settings that your phone had, you just have to go to Settings - Advanced settings - Backup / Reset - Reset network settings.

Reset app default settings

This option can be found in various sections of your phone's Settings. For example, mobile applications may have some configured default settings that we can reset. By this we mean, for example, permissions that some apps have to perform a specific process. A simple example: when they send you a link, Google Chrome may be set as the specific browser to open it. This permission can be revoked from the settings. We show you how.

In the settings menu we look for the applications tab and click on the app in which we are interested to restore these settings. In the "open by default" tab we can see if we have allowed the app to open automatically when a specific action is performed (as with the example of the link). All you have to do is press the "Clear defaults" button.
