Overheating issues with the Snapdragon 810 could affect the Galaxy S6 and LG G4, among others

When a single processor becomes the one that all manufacturers seem to be using in their next flagship, and there is talk of technical problems with that processor, panic arises. We are talking about the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810, which could be having overheating problems, which would affect smartphones like the Samsung Galaxy S6, the LG G4, and the Xiaomi Mi5, among many others.

All flagships

All the flagships were going to have the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810. Well, not all, there are some that do not, and precisely for that reason it was said that said smartphone was not going to be of as much level as its rivals. With this we can get an idea of the relevance that the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 had in the market. An eight-core 64-bit processor, which had to be the best of the whole year. It was not going to arrive until summer, but a few weeks ago a new version of the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 was launched with this processor. This same week the LG G Flex 2 with this processor has been officially launched. And it seems that the Xiaomi Mi5, which would be launched next week, would also have this processor. But it is that, to all those we would have to add other smartphones that have not yet been launched, such as the Samsung Galaxy S6, the LG G4 and the Sony Xperia Z4, which were also going to have, as it was known, with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 810

High-level processor issue

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 is made up of two quad-core processors, a high-performance one and a low-power one. According to three analysts at JP Morgan, it is the first one that causes overheating problems. Apparently its four cores begin to reach a too high temperature when the clock frequency exceeds 1,4 GHz. If we consider that this processor reaches a clock frequency of 2,2 GHz in some smartphones, we can reach the easy conclusion that it is a remarkably serious problem. This reduces the graphics performance, and makes the clock frequency of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 not exceed that of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 805.

Because of this, the company would have to launch the processor a quarter later, they would need another month to make a new prototype with a redesign of the metal layers, and another two months to be able to finish manufacturing and launch the processor on the market. Until May the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 would not be available. And that means that the Samsung Galaxy S6, the LG G4, the Sony Xperia Z4, the Xiaomi Mi5, or any other smartphone with this processor, would not reach the market until May, and that in The best case. Almost unintentionally, they would be smartphones that would hit the market in the second half of 2015.

The other options are basic. Samsung could install its Exynos 7 processor, while the other companies could install a processor from Nvidia, or the Qualcomm Snapdragon 805. Will this give Nvidia an opportunity to steal market from Qualcomm in the world of smartphones?

Hopefully the snapdragon will be replaced by the Nvidia pros, who are doing their job well.

This news is old. I left in gsmarena more than a month ago after qualcomm said that there was no problem and that they could use it without problems if they want I can help them publish more recent things. Interested sarti2086@gmail.com

I really would like to see a Samsung with the tegra chip and see how powerful it is, but let's continue being slaves of snapdragon

I'm with you, I would say that Samsung should opt for other processors, since they have had problems with the snapdragon

For my snapdragon is doing its job, let's leave them if we have to wait anyway
