Comparison: Apple Watch against its android rivals

Apple Watch Cover

Attention, if you are an Apple fan, this comparison may not be for you. Yes, and that is said by one who expected Apple to revolutionize the market with its new smartwatch. But no, it seems that it has not. At least, not in theory, as we see in this comparison, Apple Watch against its android rivals.

It is not easy to write this article being completely objective, so I will start by stating that this article can be purely subjective. Now, it must also be said that all the fanaticism that you have been able to detect regarding the new Apple event is very far from reality, because Apple has not revolutionized the market, neither with the iPhone 6, nor with the Apple Watch. I will try to see it in light of the characteristics that we know of this watch.

And we are not talking about technical specifications because, as you can see in the table at the end, in which we compare the Apple Watch, the Moto 360, the LG G Watch R and the Samsung Gear S, we hardly know the technical specifications of the apple watch. Yes, we know that it has a screen, and that three versions are released and all that, but we do not know much more about the size of the screen, the resolution, etc.

Apple Watch

The best of the Apple Watch

But look how curious it is that we start talking about the best of the Cupertino smart watch. Because it has some very positive aspects, don't think so. The Apple Watch has a sapphire crystal, something that smartwatches on the market do not have until now. The American company has not renounced this crystal to lower the price of the watch, and that is something to be thankful for, although later it will be necessary to analyze if it really pays to pay the price of this watch. Its most economical price is $ 350, although there will be three versions, one made of aluminum, one made of stainless steel, and another of 18 carats, but we assume that this latest version is not going to be the cheapest. It seems that it will be available in two sizes, 38 and 42 millimeters in height and screen size.

Samsung Gear S Smartwatch

Of course, we do not forget the Digital Crown. This crown is very similar to that of a conventional watch, but instead of turning to change the time, it allows us to move around the screen, and zoom. It is very reminiscent of the roulette that the iPod originally had.

But in short, the key to the Apple Watch is in the design, very careful, although it is not a round watch. However, the materials they use and the care of the style of the watch are very remarkable characteristics of the new Apple Watch. All this without counting the different design straps that Apple has launched. But as for the technical characteristics, little to mention.

The worst of the Apple Watch

Now let's talk about the worst of the smartwatch, compared to its rivals. You can't make calls, and the Samsung Gear S, that's something to keep in mind. Thanks to the SIM card, the Samsung Gear S is a standalone smartwatch, capable of making calls and surfing the Internet. It was one of the expected features of the iPhone 6, but it has not finally arrived. The same has happened with the round screen design. Apple has opted for a square screen. The design is very good, but we were expecting a round watch that has not arrived. It seems that the essence of the watch is lost with the Apple Watch, when we totally expected the opposite. The Motorola Moto 360 and LG G Watch R retain the style of the watches, and that's something to keep in mind.

LG G Watch R

To all this we must add that the Apple Watch does not carry GPS, and it is true that its rivals, in many cases, do not either, but it is not a differentiating characteristic. The Sony SmartWatch 3 does carry GPS, even though it looked like the least capable next-gen smartwatch ever released. It is surprising that the Apple Watch does not have GPS, although it is said that it is capable of monitoring the user's movement when doing sports. And yes, it is, but as long as it is within reach of an iPhone.

Another feature to take into account is the low customization of the smartwatch. Yes, it is true that it will have some options established by Apple to choose the Watch Face of the watch, but the truth is that this is nothing compared to the large number of customization options that watches with Android Wear will have. Currently the ability for developers to directly customize the clock interface has not yet been released in the SDK. Google has already confirmed that it is working on it and that it is going to launch this new possibility. But currently there are already developers who have done something similar, thanks to the freedom of Android.

Oh, and by the way, it doesn't have a keyboard. To respond to the messages we will have to use phrases that we have previously predefined, phrases that the system automatically generates from previous messages, or voice messages. We can also use voice messages on Android Wear, but we have the option of having a keyboard, which, although not very useful, can be used to answer a message at a certain time.

Motorola Moto 360

And all this without forgetting something main, that the new Apple Watch, at least from what we have seen so far, does not have an Internet browser, so it all comes down to applications. In Android Wear it will happen the same in the end, but the advantage of having the freedom of having more freedom in the operating system, offers a much more promising future.

Of course, the compatibility will not be greater. The Apple Watch is not compatible with Android, as we speculated this afternoon. What's more, it is not compatible with the iPhone 4, or with the iPhone 4S, or with any iPad, only with the iPhone 5 onwards, which means that to use this smart watch it will be necessary to have an iPhone 5 or a phone Apple even more modern.

Then we leave you with the technical specifications that we have of the smartwatch, which are not many, as well as those of its rivals.

I do not share the criticism you make of the Apple Watch at all.

    - It has no SIM. Almost none carry it. And that is because its objective is not to replace the telephone. Think about your day to day substituting a mobile for a watch phone. You would lose a lot of functions and end up taking the mobile again. In the end you would pay for two phone lines. I do not doubt that in very specific moments it would be practical ... But they are very specific moments.

    - it has no keyboard. You yourself say that the android one has no real utility. Therefore it is criticizing for criticizing. A keyboard on a clock makes no sense, whatever we wear.

    - does not have sdk. Android wear at the moment either. Google has announced it, but Apple has not denied it. We will see in future versions.

Your main criticism is the same as always. iOS is not open and android is.

Ok, whoever wants an open OS on their watch will have to opt for one with android wear, but beware! They will not have a comfortable keyboard, sdk, or SIM card either.

And by the way ... In a previous article criticized Motorola wear for its poor internal design.

Is it so difficult to admit that, given what you have seen, the best offer in terms of technical design, aesthetics and usability (especially usability) is that of Apple?

When there is a watch with android wear with a sdk available, an app store, and a good technical design, I will tell you that Apple has to put the batteries

It reminds me of the criticisms of the first iPod. To the first iPhone. And the first iPad.
Myopia, obsession with circuitry and technical data, lack of overview.

AppleWatch is going to sell as fast as they make it.

It's nice to watch Apple videos.
They appeal to usability, user experience, what the device brings to the user, what they gain by using it, it shows functions, solutions, virtues.

I don't know resolution, battery life, or screen technology.
I don't even want to know. I do not want a comparison of specifications. Neither I nor 99% of the users. I want you to assure me that each thing has been thought out with criteria and will work as expected or beyond.

Samsung, Sony, LG, Motorola, giants that among others have been releasing models of smartwatches that are sold with droppers for years. They do not stand out. They do not stand out. They are wrong.
And it's not a brand's lack of marketing, power, money, or user base. They all have plenty. And they don't sell. The market is residual.

What they do not have is success, soul, passion for what they design, nor do they hit the nail on the head.
Apple went from rookie to leader in phones, tablets, and audio players.

    And now in watches.

Seriously? LOL. According to you Apple is the only company that thinks things right?
It is a smartwatch that does not have water resistance, that has a nefarious design and "a disappointing battery". As for its operating system for smartwatch it is a great M if we take into account Android wear that has been designed from scratch for a smartwatch.
And by the way that Apple is the one that has the most sales in a closed Apple conference last year a slide was filtered from an Apple conference that was titled "Users want what we do not have"
The crown has been a way of saying "we are different, we have innovated"
And as if that weren't enough, the launch will be next year, therefore it should be compared with the smartwatches of that batch.

Thank goodness that it clarifies that its article is not objective and that it is based on personal opinions. To begin, the comparisons are made with the watch or watches at hand. These are only opinions of Android FANATICO that does not exceed the pique it has with Apple
