Comparison: ZTE Grand Memo vs Samsung Galaxy Note 2

ZTE-Grand-Memo-vs-Note-2

Samsung opened the can years ago with its Galaxy Note, the original, the first phablet to receive really significant commercial support. Few could think that at that time what they were doing was setting the standard for what would later become smartphones, devices with large screens. Even Apple has been left behind. However, we already have companies willing to threaten the supremacy of the South Koreans in this market. Precisely today a very important rival has been presented, the ZTE Grand Memo, which also surprises for being unique at this time. We put the two great phablets face to face in this comparison, ZTE Grand Memo vs Samsung Galaxy Note 2.

Processor and RAM

The ZTE Grand Memo is unique in its processor. While the HTC One was presented with the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor, of the new generation of quad-core processors, the Chinese have surprised using a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 in their ZTE Grand Memo, the superior version of the aforementioned, with a frequency 1,5 GHz clock. Opposite is the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 with a four-core Exynos that reaches a clock frequency of 1,6 GHz. Although the latter seems higher, it is not, since the other is much more current and still has a long way to go, while the Exynos is in a terminal stage.

However, things change when we get to RAM, and if the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 has 2 GB of RAM as is normal in any high-end device, the ZTE Grand Memo stays at 1 GB, more typical of a device that is one step below, and that is precisely what happens.

Screen and camera

However, any phablet stands out for its screen. The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 has a screen with Super AMOLED HD technology, with a size of 5,5 inches and with a high definition resolution of 1280 by 720 pixels. The ZTE Grand Memo uses IPS LCD technology, and precisely carries the same resolution, 1280 by 720 pixels. However, the screen of the Chinese device is 5,7 inches. Even so, it is striking that the resolution is not higher, since it is a much more current device, which again shows that they have wanted to leave it a step below.

When we are going to talk about the camera, we always ask ourselves the same thing, why Samsung would stay with an eight megapixel sensor when the large devices of that time were already reaching 12 megapixels. What we find in the Galaxy Note 2 is an eight megapixel sensor, capable of recording video in Full HD. However, the ZTE Grand Memo jumps up to 13 megapixels, and also incorporates some programs that improve the operation of this, such as the smart socket selector, which is also present in the device of the South Koreans.

Operating system and software

The operating system of both is Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, and it does not seem that either of them is going to be without the next update, so here we find ourselves in a clear technical tie that will only be resolved when the time for the big ones arrives. updates.

Regarding the software and the set of applications, the situation is already certainly different. Samsung incorporates the Premium Suite pack, with a good collection of applications and add-ons. However, ZTE seems to also use a new revamped interface, which also adds certain applications. In the end, all they do is add layers that, according to them, improve some of the shortcomings of the software, but that in the end only slow down the system.

ZTE Grand Memo

Memory and battery

We cannot compare the memory capabilities of both devices. While the ZTE Grand Memo will only hit the market in a single 16 GB option, the Galaxy Note 2 has three versions, 16, 32 and 64 GB, so it is up to each one to choose a certain amount of space. 16 GB is enough for a normal use of the device, so it would already be a totally subjective question.

Comparing the batteries will allow us to look at the power capacity of the Chinese device in perspective. We said that it stood out for having a 3.200 mAh battery, and if we compare it with other devices, such as the Sony Xperia Z, or the HTC One, it really seemed a lot. However, when comparing it with the Samsung Galaxy Note 2, which has a similar 3.100 mAh battery, we realize that the real difference is that the larger screen size implies greater energy consumption, and that, therefore, more battery is required.

Miscellany

As a final detail, we should focus our attention on the S-Pen, the peripheral of the Samsung Galaxy Note 2, which identified the device since the first version was launched on the market. This stylus allows you to get the most out of the equipment, and has also been used in higher versions, such as the Galaxy Note 10.1 and the current Galaxy Note 8. The ZTE Grand Memo does not have a high-quality stylus. This is a point against it, since the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 also has all those applications designed to fully exploit the stylus. The ZTE Grand Memo is, therefore, for all those who are looking for a device similar to the Samsung Galaxy Note 2, although with a good price, since it will surely hit the market for something less than what this flagship Samsung device did. Most likely, it will be around 400 euros, although there is still enough to know, since all we know about the launch is that it will take place in 2013, hoping that it will be after the month of May.
