Developers prefer to build their apps for iOS over Android

There are things, like religion or faith in Apple, that escape reason. Even today, most developers prefer to make their new apps for iOS rather than Android. Despite the greater projection that all experts give to Android, two out of three programmers still prefer to create for iPhone / iPad than for Android devices.

Analytics company Flurry just released its latest app market data. It is worth highlighting the fact that, in the first quarter of this year, 69% of new application projects have been created with the iOS system in mind, leaving the remaining 31% for Android. Apple today would have about 615.000 apps in its App Store compared to around 450.000 that would be on Google Play.

We talk about religion because there is something irrational in these data. The Apple ecosystem has long been overtaken by Android. It is true that they led the way, but the dozens of manufacturers, hundreds of operators and millions of users who have opted for Android show which of the two has more future. In this there is a lot of parallelism with the computing of the 80s. Apple computers led the way but were surpassed by PCs.

There is at least one piece of data in the Flurry data that could reveal a trend reversal. While in the penultimate quarter of 2011, only a quarter of the new apps were Android, the figure has risen to 31%.

Flurry's explanations for this data seem like short-term justifications to me. They say that developers create more apps for iOS because, without touching anything, they are valid for both iPhone mobiles and iPad tablets. In addition, they blame the fragmentation of Android for the laziness of developers to create with Google's system in mind. Because that's what happens, laziness. More fragmentation than there was in the 80s and 90s, with various operating systems (MSDOS, Windows, OS / 2, all Linux distributions, hundreds of hardware manufacturers ...) is now absent in Android.

They also refer to money. They maintain that a developer gets four times more from his app on iOS than on Android. This would be a good argument, there is nothing more rational than the desire to do business. But, and we return to the history of computing, those who bet decades ago to create their programs for Mac computers, were cornered, with an increasingly narrow market and almost servile with respect to what Apple will send. History is repeating itself.

All data from the Flurry study.

It's very simple, there are much more people willing to pay money for apps on Apple than on Android. Quantity is not synonymous with quality. Many people on Android want all apps to be free and legal. That's absurd.

Ami I don't care because for the ipad 3 I use jailbreak and for android I use blackmark

Precisely because of people like you this happens, a jailbreak is more difficult than installing the blackmarkt.
Is it really so hard to pay a euro and a half, of which the developer does not get even half, for a useful application?

.. (dozens of manufacturers have opted for android) .. uhmm I think that is not true, what happens is that iOS only works on apple devices ... that dozen manufacturers have no choice but to install android, and the economic question is also fundamental or is it that someone works for free? apart in a resume it always looks more like the word apple than another brand.

I believe that what is worth on your resume are the projects you have done, not a brand !!! stop a comment from people of little talent!

many actually think they prefer windows phone

The reason is that on android you can download the apk and you don't have to modify anything to install it (no hacking is necessary). Many of the companies that develop Android apps have realized that they earn more money by putting a free app with advertising than by putting a paid app without advertising, but look at rovio with angry birds.

It is the first time that I read this blog but I have already seen that impartiality is conspicuous by its absence.

Totally agree with you. Only the beginning of the article "There are things, like religion or faith in Apple, that escape reason" already speaks for itself.

I guess it's a matter of the site being androidayuda.com

I have an ipod. And I use android phone. I am an imac user for the simple fact that I was tired of crashes on computers with windows system, even knowing that with my pc the power increased as my economy increased. But they recommended the stability of macosx to me, I tried it and here I am. My younger years of fiddling with hard and soft have passed.

I consider myself impartial since apple's policy is not different from those of any company.

Yes indeed. I don't know why but I feel safer paying for an application in the appstore than in google play.

I am not a developer, but as I understand it, the iOS SDK is much easier to handle than the Android one, to which we must add that, due to the FREEDOM that Android users have, an extra layer of security must be added to avoid the happy pirates (and it has been shown in more than one app that it can be done, with which this excuse is partially invalidated).

Another thing that I understand that adds a disadvantage for Android compared to iOS is that Android, being free, is in millions of devices with different parts from different manufacturers, which makes it very difficult to create a universally compatible app, while in iOS you are developing an app for three or four devices with very similar characteristics.

Now, it must be said in favor of Android that the company that develops solely for iOS is losing a huge target market, since Android currently has the largest market share of all the operating systems for smartphones.
