Like many of the features that are implemented via software in many phones, they solve a problem that the phone has. So to know what DC Dimming is, we will first have to know what problem it is solving.
OLED screens like the one on the Mate 20 Pro work with a technology called Pulse-width modulation (Pulse width modulation in Spanish). This technology reduces or increases the duty cycles of the display signal depending on whether you increase or decrease the brightness of the screen.
But using PWM (acronym by which this technology is commonly known) creates a problem. By using the screen with low brightness and greatly reducing the working frequency of the screen signal, and therefore the current that the screen receives, creates a blink. And you may not see them, but your eyes do. AND it can cause dizziness or headaches.
DC Dimming comes to solve this problem. And it is that via software, this technology allows to regulate the amount of current sent to the screen. So you can also increase the working frequency of the signal, causing these flickers, so it puts an end to the problem of dizziness or headaches when you use the phone in low light.
DC Dimming for the Huawei Mate 20 Pro
