Nexus 4: its camera has the same fault as that of iPhone 5

The fact that Nexus 4 it is a terminal of a high quality there is no doubt. Many of its components are the best that can be found today, such as its Qualcomm SoC and Samsung's RAM. But not everything is "rosy" in Google's new reference model.

One has been found in several photos leaked on the Internet, such as on the blog GSMArena or AnandTech, it is clearly appreciated that in some shots purple flashes are seen in certain lighting conditions. In other words, exactly the same thing happens to the iPhone 5 camera… so it shares both the resolution of its sensor and the aforementioned failure.

The problem points out that it is due to the lens, which has a excess infrared gain and therefore this effect (called flare) appears. In any case, it is not a serious defect or anything like that, since the same thing happens to many models of digital cameras (some even high-end). Anyway, this is still a curious detail and if it was commented at the time about iPhone 5, it is fair to do the same with Nexus 4.

Solutions?

Unfortunately, there are not many options to correct what happens. In dedicated cameras this is corrected using umbrellas, but in a phone this is not feasible. What's more, there is no fixed rule in which the "flare" appears, so you cannot guess what will happen. That is to say, that "garlic and water".

What is certain is that Nexus 4 has this flaw, and it occurs even in Photo Sphere, the new panoramic photos functionality of Android 4.2. Sometimes it is even appreciated that the purple flashes are more evident here. But, as we have already indicated, this is not something very serious and, sometimes, this effect is sought intentionally.

If you are one of the lucky ones to have a Nexus 4, does this happen to you? And, if so, how often?

I have taken about 300 photos, many of them making tests, and in none have I observed that it happens, at least I have not realized it.

It remains to be seen what part of the truth there is in all this.

Well, I have checked it and it seems that it may be true, I have recorded a video now at night and it does look like a small flash, but I do not know if that will be normal due to focus or sensor aperture issues.
