OnePlus One creates a very unwise contest to give away 100 mobiles

You want a OnePlus One? With its price, it is not too complicated to get one, it must be said. It is also a good mobile, so it is one of the best options for its quality / price ratio. However, they have launched a contest to get it for just one dollar. However, it is not a very smart contest, as you will have to destroy your old mobile.

It is seen that the company wanted to promote its new smartphone by giving away 100 units to users, and trying to get many who were interested. The idea is really good, because 100 people can get a OnePlus One paying only a dollar, a ridiculous amount for anyone. However, there was one condition, "Smash the Past." It is the name of the contest, and it says «Break with the past», referring to the fact that you will have to destroy your old smartphone to get the new one OnePlus One.

Nobody is particularly happy to have to get rid of a smartphone, but the truth is that it does not matter if it is a very old one. However, the conditions of the contest have been published, and rules have been established regarding the type of mobile that will have to be destroyed, and they are the following:

In other words, only high-end smartphones, flagships, can participate in this contest. It is necessary to destroy one of these to get as a gift a OnePlus One. Anyone who has one of the previous phones would not consider destroying it to get this new smartphone (unless they have an iPhone 5c, of course). In all cases, it is even much smarter to sell it, to pay the price of the OnePlus One. In some cases, it is possible to get more money selling the mobile than the smartphone costs, as is the case of the iPhone 5s, the Galaxy S6, Galaxy Note 3, HTC One M8, or Sony Xperia Z2. But it is even the same with the flagships of last year, except in the case of the Nexus 5 or the Motorola Moto X, which are more or less that price new, and therefore, less second-hand. But, even if we sell it for less than 300 euros, it is better to sell it to someone in our family, and we pay the difference of the sale price to get the OnePlus One.

The contest was funny when those 100 users could destroy any mobile phone. Nobody would have minded destroying a smartphone that was already broken. However, with this approach it seems like a most stupid contest. If you still want to participate, the most profitable thing is to buy a second-hand Galaxy S3, which can be obtained for about 200 euros. But it is that, in any of the cases, it is almost laughable to participate in the contest to destroy one of those terminals.

Promotion, or mistake?

Of course, it cannot be said that the contest that the company has organized is going to give them a good promotion. Specialized blogs from all over the world are cataloging this contest as a mistake. They recommend users not to participate in it, and above all not to destroy their smartphone. It is true that the Internet is full of videos in which users destroy their smartphones and in many cases they are funny. But from there to inviting users to destroy the smartphone to give them one, there is a very big world. On the other hand, there are only 100 mobiles that they were going to give away. If they were 3.000 mobiles, perhaps it was reasonable, but they could perfectly consider the option of giving away 100 mobiles without having to force people to have to get rid of theirs.
