Samsung Galaxy Note 3 + Galaxy Gear: First Impressions

Samsung Galaxy Note 3

That Apple has always been a benchmark for quality and great user experience is no secret. Before, Samsung was one notch below. Today, we could almost say that the South Koreans have improved Apple in many ways. We have already been able to test the new Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and Samsung Galaxy Gear, and these are our first impressions for a day-to-day use.

Samsung Galaxy Note 3: useful and powerful

First of all, we talk about the smartphone. In our opinion, Samsung has been widely successful with this terminal. We see very decisive improvements between the Galaxy S4 and the Note 3, especially in the design. While the case of the Galaxy S4 was wearing down, giving the appearance of old, the new case that simulates the skin on the Galaxy Note 3 makes it much more resistant. And also, instead of being that plastic that seems cheap, it gives it a premium touch that must be taken into account. On the other hand, the terminal is very comfortable. Enables one-handed controls so that the keyboard, calculator, and other applications are side-aligned and can be controlled with one hand. But it is not only comfortable because of all the software options, which are many, but also because of the design and construction. Again, the back cover makes it much easier to hold, without fear of it falling, and the weight of the smartphone is quite correct. There is not much difference compared to other high-end terminals, and almost all the weight is due to the battery.

On the other hand, the screen is large, but the bezels are really thin, and that makes the size of the smartphone very good, very small compared to what could be expected from the terminal, and compared to other smartphones, a lot smaller in relation to the size of its screen.

With regard to its operation, having the best processor on the market, and having a single 3 GB RAM memory, which no other terminal carries, it shows a lot. The fluidity is incredible, it does not get stuck or slow down, and we can even run multiple applications at the same time with MultiView without noticing slowdowns.

Perhaps the biggest drawback found is the S Pen, which is very good and useful, but could have been built with better quality materials. The technology it uses is good, and even a part of the pointer is built with materials that look very premium, but then because of the area in which it is used it seems much weaker. In any case, it is a minor detail. And on the other hand, I didn't like the interface. But that usually happens to me with Android. And I'm not talking about the menus, but about the arrangement of the icons, their size, their margins, etc. Even so, thanks to how Android is, I have solved it by installing the launcher that I always use and customizing it. Also, that is a personal matter, and some users might prefer one thing or another, it is just a personal opinion.

Samsung Galaxy Gear: colorful, eye-catching, useful?

Few things can be said about the watch. It's what users see, but they have to believe it. It is to carry a new type of device that, even if you do not want to, leaves you astonished. Even for those of us who have been the most critical of it, including myself, it is still a device that surprises and amazes. Wearing a watch on your wrist, being able to install some apps to personalize it, and take advantage of some of the functions it carries, is great. The biggest problem is that for its price it might not seem useful enough. It is a showy whim, which will be liked a lot by those who see it, but which is not quite useful. It is a first edition of a new device, and it is normal for this to be the case. Probably the passage of time will make it much more useful and of higher quality.

Galaxy Note 3

Speaking of the watch itself, we found the construction really sturdy. The screen reacts better than we expected for videos, and the quality of the camera is also higher than expected. The closure is more typical of a high-end watch. Obviously, it's a high-end watch for that price, but we were also expecting a poorer quality clasp. Basically there is nothing wrong with the watch when it comes to hardware quality. The problems are mostly in the interface. I don't want to be critical, but of course the designer must have been blind. Good thing the clock itself is not bad, and you can change the color of the menus, but the phone dialer application and the Settings menu is just ugly. Even so, once one has tried this watch, it is difficult to get rid of it. Now we can say that smart watches have a great future. But in any case, these are only our first impressions, when we have been able to thoroughly test the devices, we will do a thorough analysis of the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and the Samsung Galaxy Gear.

you should use other expressions such as being designed by the blind ... since there are blind artists who do better things without seeing than the people we see

Totally true usby. I doubt that a blind person will be offended by this, because he will have understood perfectly what he meant. But even so, the truth is that there are blind people with much higher creative capacities than a person who can see. In fact, there is no reason to think that they are less creative. It is a prejudice that is sometimes difficult to avoid, out of habit. But you are right.

With respect to the Samsung, it is simply an interface with little taste. Especially if we compare it with what they are capable of doing with other menus on the same watch, which is what is surprising.

I think that the large icons on the main screen (time, date, notifications) is a great advantage, the quick glance is much more efficient, and also those of us who do not have Superman's view appreciate it.
