Sony releases open source files for its new Xperia S

ROM developers must be happy. Sony has just released the open source code of its new mobile, the Xperia S. It is not usual for a manufacturer to share part of its code, especially not to coincide with the arrival of the terminal in stores around the world. In addition, it does it with all the instructions so that programmers have easier to make their own ROMs.

Already last year, the people of Sony published how to create a Linux kernel. Now they launch the code file the Xperia S, which contains the files needed to build a kernel. It is the first time that they have published the source code of a terminal made on Qualcomm's Snapdragon s3 platform. To flash this software you have to follow a series of steps and run a script that has also been published on the company's blog.

With this step, Sony stands out as the manufacturer that pampers custom ROM developers the most. It may be because you need to make up for lost space in favor of other manufacturers, but their more open policy will allow many programmers to adapt the Xperia S to their tastes and needs.

The news also came just hours before Sony announced that they had already started shipping the Xperia S to the different markets of the planet (in Spain it was already available from the Mobile World Congress). Recall that the Xperia S brings a 1.5 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon dual-core processor, a 4,3-inch HD screen and an impressive 32GB internal memory. Although it comes out with Android 2.3 Gingerbread, it will be updated in a few weeks to Android 4.x

Events have developed very fast. First, the Japanese firm completes the purchase of the part of Sony Ericsson that was still in the hands of the Swedish company last October. Only three months later, it was already announcing its first smartphone, the Xperia S, at CES in Las Vegas, and a few weeks later it already began to hit the markets, with its open source archive released.

The update will be out according to Sony in early June. More important than that should be to replace the terminals that have been manufactured with defects on the screen, which turns yellow.
If you are going to buy a Sony Xperia S you should read this before:
