HTC One M8 factory reset after failing 10 times to unlock

HTC One M8

Security is important, and more so in mobile devices, since they are carried from one place to another on a regular basis. The fact is that in the new HTC One M8 It includes a functionality that should be known for the implications it has. This is executed if it fails ten times to unlock the terminal.

Specifically, what happens is that if this occurs, a factory reset. This, for those who are unaware of the existence of this process, implies the loss of data in the terminal, including account settings. Therefore, we are not talking about an unimportant issue since those who regularly use a mobile phone know that reconfiguring this is a long and tedious process (not to mention the data that cannot be recovered).

Therefore, this must be kept in mind when using the new HTC One M8, as it is not a trivial question. It is true that this option in the case of loss or theft sets aside security for the user, but it is no less true that it can be thought of as somewhat drastic. In the following video you can see that this happens and is real:

Mind you, warnings are provided

Obviously for this to occur, the HTC One M8 is launching warnings in this regard, the first being the fifth time that the lock pattern (or password) is incorrectly entered. From that moment, each time the action is carried out in an erroneous way, a new message appears communicating that warns of the number of faults left for the factory reset to occur. In this way, it is true that the data is prevented from being erased if, for example, a child is manipulating the device.

The fact is that this security function is present in the HTC One M8, so if you are thinking of getting one, you should be aware of its existence. Therefore, perhaps it is advisable not to lose the vital information that you have, it is recommended that the data be stored in the SD card of the device (not in the internal storage) and, even, to resort to services in the cloud. An example would be Google Drive, where with the new device you have 50 GB of space.

The interesting thing would be that in addition to this data security functionality, it would be good if it continues to be unlocked, that is, if the phone is stolen with which the aggrieved who was made with it erroneously enters the pattern or unlocking key then keeps a new phone !, and that the unlock key is also required when entering the system with the button combination, it is clear that sooner or later the owner will find the way to unlock it, or that the company strongly suggests to the owner that you should save somewhere a memory aid for the password you enter on the phone, if anyone has a way of suggesting this, I will comment to the company's programmers as I think it would be interesting. At least the buying and selling of stolen mobile phones could be prevented.
