Being a hybrid halfway between a mobile and a tablet, the Samsung Galaxy Note, with its 5,3-inch screen, is in a strange no-man's-land. It left the factory with the Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system and not 3.0 or Honeycomb, the one specifically for tablets. But there are those who have insisted on turning it into a tablet and have created a modification to bring the graphical interface of Android 4.0 to the Galaxy Note.
A user of the RootGalaxyNote.com site, specialized in this Samsung model and all its modifications, has published a video showing how to port Ice Cream Sandwich to the Galaxy Note. It is not the first Android 4.0.x ROM that comes out for this terminal, but what makes the Imilka AOSP ICS ROM is that it installs the operating system adapted for tablets.
The modification allows the Samsung Galaxy Note works like a tablet completely. Where the biggest change is of course is in the graphical interface and appearance. Thus, once this ROM is installed, the new interface allows panel and multi-column views in applications that support this feature, as most Google apps do.
The author remembers that this ROM is something particular. You have not added anything to the operating system. It is as it came out of the Android Open Source Project (AOSP, where Google publishes the code for Android systems as it releases them). Its only and big difference is that it allows you to use the tablet mode on a device like the Galaxy Note, which it is not.
The video explains all the steps that must be taken to install this modification (refrain from newbies). The author warns that this ROM still has some small bugs but that will be solving them. Among them there is a strange warning, after restarting with the new ROM, that the first SMS sent has not been sent. Also, the system sometimes does not recognize the SD card as external storage but nothing serious.
But there are few errors not to try, at least, the Samsung Galaxy Note turned into a tablet.
