How to use Telegram without the phone number

Telegram is an application with many options for personalization for chats, It is something that many and many of us know, what I have found many times around me is that people do not know that Telegram can be used without giving the phone number. We explain how.

The truth is that it is a more interesting option than it may seem a priori for some users, but for work reasons (and even people you have just met, for example) you can give your Telegram to someone without your phone and this way there are no more ways to contact you automatically (SMS, WhatsApp and even apps that sync with your contacts).

No phone number? How do you do that? Well, it is very easy. To begin with, before we begin we want to clarify that you will need the phone number in the first instance, but later you will need it, and that Telegram can be used even without a SIM card in your phone.

If you already have Telegram, it's done, you have to have the application installed, once the message has been sent to you and the app has started, you can start configuring it to use it without a phone.

Now you will have to go to options (sliding from the left on the main screen) and you will see your information directly, you will only have to press where it says aliases, if you have not configured it it will be blank.

There you write the username you want to use for Telegram, from that, now you only have to configure a name. In case you do not have it or you would like to change it, you will have to go to the three points located in the upper right part of the options screen and there select Edit name. 

In this way you can only the user and also the person will see your Telegram name and will not be able to access your phone number in any way.

As we have said, we remember that Telegram can be used without SIM, Only with wi-fi connection we can use it, as we have said, we need a phone number to make the account, once this is done it is not necessary. To start a Telegram session, it will send us a message to our own Telegram (once opened), so what we recommend is that you have a session open on your PC. 

Telegram Web or Telegram Desktop works without the phone, first you will need the mobile to start, but once this is done Telegram Web works even with the mobile off, so if you do this you can not only hide your phone number from others, but also do without the terminal to use Telegram.

For this we download the Telegram Desktop app in the Microsoft PlayStore (Windows) or in the App Store Apple (Mac OS X), from your Linux package store or looking for the command for the terminal of your distribution (Yes, it is an official client), download from its official website or go to web.telegram.org. And we can connect to Telegram Web and use it entirely from there, so if it is not your main messaging app you can even leave it as just a PC app.

So yes, you can use Telegram on a secondary phone without SIM or on your PC without the need for the phone. While we always recommend keeping your phone close at hand, you never know if there might be a downside.
