WhatsApp and other Android applications on your PC or Mac with Andy OS

Andy O.S.

Many times we have talked about running Android applications on the computer, be it Windows or Mac. And as much as different alternatives arrive, the truth is that finally none of them has just worked with enough efficiency and correctness. Andy O.S. It could be a good option for all those who need to use Android apps on Windows or Mac PCs, such as WhatsApp.

One of the things that was talked about when Facebook bought WhatsApp was the possible launch of the computer application, or the integration of the system in the social network, which would allow us to use WhatsApp from the web. However, it seems that there is still some time left for that, and we will have to continue using WhatsApp from the smartphone ... or from a smartphone emulated on a computer. That is precisely what he takes care of Andy O.S., to emulate Android on our computer. Thanks to this, we can run applications that we are developing to see how they work without having to use the smartphone, or any other application that we prefer to have on the computer, either to test it on the PC before installing it on the smartphone, or because directly we don't have a smartphone.

Good options for using Andy OS

  • Use WhatsApp on your PC: You cannot yet use WhatsApp on your computer officially. If we do not have smartphones, or we need to be able to use the application on the computer, we can choose to use Andy OS. To do this, of course, it will be necessary to install the program, and also install the application from an .apk file. That's really easy, because we can download the file from the company's official website without any problem. When we have Andy OS running, we open the browser, and go to www.whatsapp.com/android, from there we can download the app by clicking on the green button that says Download now. We can even download the application directly from Google Play.
  • Use your smartphone as a controller to play games: The smartphone and the computer are synchronized to show the same image when we are playing video games. In some racing games the controls are not the best. And it is not because they are bad, it is because in order to control the vehicle well we would have to move the buttons to regions of the screen in which we would be covering the image, and making the game more difficult. Using Andy OS there is no longer any problem. On the smartphone we will control the vehicle, but it will be on the computer screen where we will see the image, so we will not be taking away vision from the screen with our hands.
  • Test applications that we have developed: If we are video game developers, it can be difficult to have to send the application to the smartphone every time we want to test it. Google's own SDK includes an emulator, but the truth is that sometimes when we export the application to another smartphone we realize that we have done something wrong, and that we have not realized it because we are using a single emulator. Having Andy OS installed and also testing in the latter how the applications work can be something very positive that saves us a lot of time.
  • Test applications that could be viruses: On the other hand, it can also be useful to increase the security of our smartphone. There are viruses for Android, although it is not very easy for our smartphone to get infected. If we are downloading applications from outside of Google Play, these are more likely to be dangerous. Before testing on the smartphone, we can test them on Andy OS to see if they really work as they claim or if they are just a hoax. Viruses that are directed at Android will not be dangerous on our computer, almost with total probability.

Andy O.S. it is now available for Windows computers. Very soon it will also be for Mac and Linux. They themselves report that they expect this version to be ready by the end of April this year, and we are already on the 28th, so we will not have to wait much longer. Andy OS is a good option for many users, although there are also others, such as YouWave, or BlueStacks, which we already talked about previously. They are the only options to use WhatsApp on the PC until they decide to release a native version, something that is also already expected.
