Dots, the ultimate guide to being an expert (Part 1)

Dots has probably become the new phenomenon of mobile video games of this new generation. Its operation is basic and the concept could not be simpler, but becoming an expert is not easy. Here we show you a series of guidelines to follow in the complete game strategy guide for Dots. Become an expert.

What is the use of becoming a Dots expert? Absolutely nothing, but it is not worth playing either, and the truth is that we have downloaded and installed what is already one of the most popular applications of the year. By the way, if you don't have it yet, you can get it on Google Play.

1.- Learn how it works

In any game, if we want to become experts, we must learn how the game works, we must know perfectly what the game is based on and what the whole game consists of. Therefore, it is not bad that we dedicate a few games to get used to the game, before trying to know how to master it. What is Dots? We find rows and columns of points of up to five different colors. And we have to combine these points, as long as they are the same color, obtaining one game point for each color point that we eliminate. Thus, start a game of Dots, and try to eliminate as many points of the same color in each movement.

2.- Master the proportions

One of the keys to the game is mastering point ratios. A Dots board has 36 points and these can be of five colors. The average is about 7 points of each color at the start of the game. These can be very close together or they can be very far apart. The closer together they are, the easier it will be to eliminate combinations of greater number of points. Point ratios are decisive in this regard. Why? Because if we eliminate all the points of one color, then there are 36 points on the board, with points of four colors, at an average of 9 points of each color. It is already much easier for them to appear together. Thus, the proportion of points of each color is essential to be able to create combinations. In the image below you can see this phenomenon. There are five colors on the board to the left, and the points are spread across the board. In the second board, what we find are only three colors. As we can see, forming combinations of the same color and a large number of points is really simple.

3.- Create squares

This is the main thing. This point is the essential of Dots. If you want to make 100 points, you can skip this, but if you want to be an expert, you will have to learn to make squares. A square is nothing more than four points together, in a square situation. When we form a complete square when drawing on the screen, we eliminate all the dots of that color on the board. This is something necessary and essential. Why? Because it is the only way to eliminate all the squares of a color that are on the board, and reduce the number of colors that there are.

The consequence of creating squares is that eliminating all the points of one color increases the proportion of other colors, and therefore makes it easier for other squares of the remaining colors to appear. Thus, we can get to have a board with one or two main colors, and accumulate an immense amount of points in a very short time.

4.- Learn to form squares

It is not difficult for the squares to appear randomly, without realizing it, but the truth is that we still have to know at all times what we are doing. The objective in each of the movements in Dots is to create a square. Sometimes we will find combinations on the screen that will allow us to easily create squares and they are the ones you have in the image below. The first one is pizza. This name is assigned because it is as if we were removing a slice of pizza. To create a square, we just have to remove the blue point. If it's not possible with a single move, it shouldn't take us more than a few to get there. The second is the ladder. As you can see, we only have to eliminate a point to create a square. In this case it is even simpler than in the previous one, since we already have the two structures created very easily. The third is the hamburger. All we have to do is eliminate the two points that separate the two rows. It is also extremely simple, but it must be taken into account that when these figures are on the board, they become a priority, since they are potential squares.

5.- Dedicate yourself to making squares

Once you've learned this, use 60 seconds of your time to make as many squares as you can. Forget the rest, forget even the great color combinations. Keep in mind that if you form a square, you will also eliminate the rest of the points of that color, making it the most efficient movement in the game.
